Hip and knee Osteoarthritis affects more than 2 million australians - Get Treatment at our Barangaroo Clinic.

Hip and knee arthritis can really affect your quality of life. Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common “lifestyle” disease in those aged over 65 years, but just because you are a bit younger, does not make you exempt.

We treat arthritis on a daily basis in our Sydney CBD clinic, less than 5 minutes walk from Wynyard. If you are looking for conservative management of your arthritis pain, start here!

What is Osteoarthritis?

OA is not simply “wear and tear” but is a combination of age related changes to a whole joint, including the joint surface (cartilage), joint fluid, joint capsule, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It often occurs as the degeneration outweighs the regeneration of a certain joint.

The GLA:D program was developed to help people manage their osteoarthritis in a clinical setting. It stands for Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark (that’s where it originated). But GLA:D Australia has helped many people see positive, non-surgical outcomes for their hip and knee arthritis.

Why choose exercise for arthritis?

Exercise has been shown to be safe and effective for osteoarthritis. Many people with osteoarthritis have co-morbidities which can limit medication options in the long term. Since OA affects the whole joint it can severely impact your strength and ability to do your day to day activities.

The GLA:D program is implemented in a group setting in the clinic with support and supervision from our highly trained physiotherapists. This is also supported by plenty of education around OA to empower you to understand and manage your pain more effectively.

If you are unsure, or not interested in group classes, the sessions can be implemented over via Telehealth or in a 1:1 setting.

On that note, it is typical to start 1:1 with your physiotherapist before engaging in the GLA:D program.
