Lower Back Injuries

Sydney Physiotherapy

The Lifetime Likelihood of Lower back pain is 80% - most people will suffer from back pain at some point!

As experienced physiotherapists, we work alongside our sports doctors and orthopaedic surgeons in Barangaroo to ensure you receive the best care possible.

Lumbar spine injuries are common. Most of them resolve on their own, but it is a good idea to get support from your physiotherapist.

99% of lower back injuries demonstrate no significant pathology, but this does not mean they aren’t debilitating. If you’ve ever had lower back pain you will understand that it affects just about every aspect of your life.

Physio intervention plays multiple roles in managing and preventing lower back pain. We can diagnose and assess the causes of the pain as well as provide strategies to prevent recurrence.

Lower Back Injuries

  • Intervertebral disc injuries (disc bulge, protrusion)

  • Joint sprains (facet joint injuries, ligament sprains)

  • Muscle strains

  • Nerve dysfunction or radiculopathy (pinched nerves)

  • Poor core stability

  • Poor posture

  • Stress fractures (spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis)

Lower back pain is largely preventable with a well planned exercise rehab program. We recommend people with recurrent lumbar spine injuries to do a course of clinical exercise (pilates) to assist with more challenging rehab - including mobility and stability exercises.
