Spotlight on the Aus Open.

Shoulder and upper limb injuries are common, but you don’t need to be a tennis player to suffer with one! Maybe you’ve been inspired by our Aussie athletes at the Australian Open like Alex De Minaur, or retiring athlete Sam Stosur, and you’ve decided to pick up a racket this summer after some time away from the sport - if this is the case and you can still feel your shoulder, elbow or wrist many days afterwards, it’s time to reach out to one of our physiotherapists.

Common injuries we see as physiotherapists in the upper limb after racket sports include:

  • Reactive shoulder tendinopathy - you’ve probably heard of the rotator cuff, this can flare up after a big session of tennis

  • Shoulder impingement

  • Tennis elbow - a tendon injury at the elbow joint, or his lesser known cousin Golfer’s elbow

  • Wrist ganglions

  • Or perhaps it’s not your shoulder at all! We often see “Tennis Leg” aka calf strain

Tennis is a demanding sport and it’s also a sport we see people come and go from as it is very seasonal.
